Blue Hill Fair Idol Rules and Entry
Entry
Each act must submit an entry form (Download Entry Form) and questionnaire along with a photo head shot. Each entry form and photo must be postmarked by August 26th, 2011 and mailed to:

This contest is for single vocalists only.
Each contestant may enter only once.
Non-vocalists may audition only once.
Due to time and set-up, personal accompaniment will not be allowed. Acts auditioning should have a CD with background music (no main vocals) ready.
Acts may sing acapella if they wish.
Eligibility
This Contest is open to all amateur entertainers 16 years of age (as of August 1, 2011) and older. Proof of age will be required at audition. If Under 18 years of age a parent or legal guardian must sign the entry form. Professional (contracted musicians or those whose talent is a principle source of income) are not permitted to enter.
Employees and staff of the Blue Hill Fair are not permitted to enter.
If you are a finalist you must be available on all dates and times listed- September 3rd and September 5th. All Semifinalists must be at the Grandstand Stage @ 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 3rd for the Semifinals which will start promptly at 4:30 PM. Finalists must be at the Grandstand Stage at 4:30 PM on Monday September 5th for the Finals which will start promptly at 5 PM.
The "Blue Hill Fair Idol" contest is an amateur singing competition meant in the spirit of fun, entertainment and as a showcase for local music enthusiasts. The title of "Blue Hill Fair Idol" carries no contractual or endorsement obligations or rights.
Please refrain from wearing inappropriate clothing items. Inappropriate lyrics will not be permitted.
Rules may be changed or modified at any time.
Contestants and their families are not allowed to have contact with judges prior to or during the competition.
Judges decisions will be without question……FINAL.
All contestants give the Blue Hill Fair the unrestricted authorization to use their name, photo, voice recordings, video recordings, entry materials or likeness in promotional materials without further compensation.
Auditions
The Contest consists of three parts: Auditions, Semifinals, and Finals.
Auditions will take place on the Grandstand stage on Thursday, September 1 starting promptly at 5 PM. Registration will start at 4:00 PM at the Sound Booth (Directly adjacent to the stage.)
All acts must audition in person.
Auditions may be in front of a live audience.
Audience members are encouraged to observe and positively support all contestants.
All lyrics must be memorized-no props, prompters or note cards may be used.
Acts may not accompany themselves with an acoustic guitar, piano, or electric instruments.
Semifinals
Entries will be eliminated down to 12 acts selected from all auditions to advance to the semifinals on Saturday, September 3rd at 4:30 PM on the Grandstand Stage.
The Twelve Semifinalists will be chosen by a panel of judges. All judges decisions will be final.
Finals
Entries will be eliminated down to 3 acts selected from the semifinals held on Saturday, September 3rd to advance to the finals held on Monday September 5th at 5 PM. The three finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges. All judges decisions will be final.
Winner
At the Finals on Monday, September 5th, held at 5PM just prior to the Bellamy Brothers performance, the three finalists will each perform and a panel of judges will chose the Blue Hill Fair 2011 Idol. All judges decisions will be final. Announced results will be final.
General Rules
Admission and Parking: Those 12 individuals who are selected to advance to the semi-finals will receive entry into the fair on the date of semifinals or finals. Parking is free.
Dressing Rooms: Dressing rooms are not available. Please plan to use public restrooms for your audition and/or semifinals, and/or finals.
Personal Outfit or Clothing: The Blue Hill Fair is a Family event. Any profanity or sexually suggestive material on clothing will not be allowed. Inappropriate attire or song lyrics will not be allowed. Judges will have the right to disqualify.
Judging: Judge's decisions are final and scores may or may not be released to the competitor. Acts will be judged by a panel of judges.

- Voice
- Strength in high and low register
- Pitch
- Holding note when necessary
- Tone
- Stage Presence
- Eye Contact
- Facial Expressions
- Body Language
- Connection with the Audience
- Appropriateness of Attire
- Entertainment Value
- Song Choice in relation to Act's Voice
- Memory of Words/Melody
- Interpretation of Music
- Overall Impression
- Is this Person an Opening Act?
In the event of a tie, ties will be broken by a flip of a coin in the presence of two or more Fair Officials.
Time Limit: Time Limit is Four (4) Minutes. This includes any spoken introduction by the act. Points will be deducted for acts going overtime.
Song Selection: Selection is left to the act. Entrants may sing a medley of songs, but must remain within the 4 minute time limit. If sound amplification is necessary, all acts are required to use the sound system and sound technician provided by the Blue Hill Fair. The Fair will provide microphones and compact disc player.
Recorded Accompaniment: Vocalist may use recorded accompaniment, provided it contains instrumental accompaniments ONLY. No Background singing will be allowed on the recording. Only a CD will be used-no cassette tapes. If a "self-made" CD will be used, please bring a back-up additional CD with you. Because of the quality deviations on CD recorders, not all self made CD's are readable on all machines. Commonly, those made on a "CD-R" will work, but no guarantee can or will be made. Your Name and the Track Number must be clearly labeled on your CD.
Awards: The Winner will Receive $500.00. 1st Runner Up will Receive $250. 2nd Runner Up will Receive $100.00 There will be no music contract. This is strictly a Blue Hill Fair local talent contest. This contest is not affiliated with any other "Idol" or Talent completion.
