Oxen PullingThe Blue Hill Fair is a true "Down to Earth" Country Fair. Always scheduled around Labor Day weekend the fair boasts of some of the finest entertainment, attractions, and exhibits. Situated in the small coastal town of Blue Hill, Maine, the Fair draws thousands from all over the state to enjoy a fun filled weekend.

Among the many attractions featured at the fair is a large livestock area, full of the usual farm animals, as well as the llamas and alpacas on display. A short distance from the livestock area, one may take in the powerful Draft Horse and Oxen Pulling. On Saturday and Monday the Blue Hill Fair features demonstration Harness Racing. On Saturday and Sunday the immensely popular Sheep Dog Trials are a featured part of the days program. Under the direction of Jim and May Davidson, the interest in this event has reflected the abounding enthusiasm that the Davidson’s display as they enter their 53rd consecutive year as Superintendents of this Blue Hill Fair Tradition.

On display in the two large exhibition halls are a wide range of locally grown vegetables, fruits and flowers, as well as local Grange exhibits, a wonderful Arts and Crafts department, with another exhibit hall dedicated to 4-H and extension displays.

Entertainment is always a big part of Blue Hill Fair. Performers such as 38 Special, Lorrie Morgan, Charlie Daniels, Diamond Rio, and Faith Hill have all performed on the Blue Hill Fair Stage. This year Blue Hill Fair is excited to bring one of the most exciting live acts in country music, Ricochet as its featured show on Labor Day. Opening the Fair’s Midway Stage offerings on Thursday evening, local favorites, “Burn Permit” will showcase their own dynamic musical styling. Friday night will feature the very popular Antique Tractor Pulling, and Saturday offers the Imperial Stunt Drivers, with their international array of dare devil “Danger Angels” for two exciting demonstrations of automobile driving, crashes and motorized wizardry. Sunday evening, long time Blue Hill Fair favorite Rick Charette and the Bubble Gum Band, provide an evening of family entertainment, followed by a Mammoth Fireworks Display.

The Blue Hill Fair features a full carnival and midway. Blue Hill Fair is unique in the number of local groups that participate with all sorts of great food and games, and Smokey’s Greater Shows provides all kinds of mechanical thrills. Two special attractions, Rosie’s Racing Pigs and, Timber Tina, of Survivor Fame, with the Great Maine LumberJack Show are featured ”Fun for the Family” entertainment. Rosie’s Racing Pigs gives us a look at Nascar ala swine, while the Great Maine LumberJack Show will demonstrate nearly forgotten lumberjack skills including, axe throwing, speed chopping, crosscut sawing, and even log rolling. New for this year will be the acrobatic performances of the New England Trampoline Show. Also back this year will be a second entertainment stage featuring such acts as the comedic improbabilities of Alex the Jester, the immensely popular Danny Harper Band, with performances by “King Piogi,” “A-Train,” “Kayla Wass Band,” “Gilpin Railroad Incident,” “The Burnham Boys,” “Ana Mae Mitchell & Rising Tide,” “Jones’N,” and The UMM Ukulele Club all scheduled for the “Midway Stage.”

Blue Hill Fair is also pleased to be a host site for the Child Identification Program (CHIP). This is a free service offered by the Freemasons of Maine with help from other organizations in the Masonic family. At Blue Hill Fair, members of Ira Berry Lodge # 128, and Nichols Day Camp working with law enforcement officials, and dental professionals will provide fingerprinting, tooth printing and videotaping services designed to create a personal record that is designed to identify the child in case of emergency. This service will be available Saturday, Sunday and Monday, September 5,6.7.

The Blue Hill Fair is located on Route 172 in Blue Hill, Maine. Admission prices are $5 for adults on Thursday. $8, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Senior Citizens day is Friday. New for this year is the THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY at the Fair admission promotion. Admission Price during Friday only will follow the following scale: Opening till 2PM-$1; 2PM-3PM-$2; 3PM-4PM-$3; 4PM-5PM-$4; 5PM-6PM-$5; 6PM-Closing $6. Senior Citizens Day admission on Friday will follow the above schedule, with a maximum of $4. Children under 12 are Free. There is no charge for parking on the Grounds. All stage shows are free with price of admission.
